Zoom Into Inventing

High school career workshop

Grades 7-12

4 Day Workshop: Monday - Thursday

June 20, 2011 - June 23, 2011

9am - 4pm

This fun, high-energy, hands-on workshop teaches participants the fundamentals of sketching and building parts and solid models using AutoDesk Inventor software.  Throughout the workshop, participants will interact with design professionals to understand the design, creation, and invention process.  The second part of the workshop will be devoted to participants working in teams to develop and document a solution to a design problem.  On the final day, participants will present their design solutions to a panel of experts, participants, family and friends.

Workshop participants will be guided through the design/creation/invention process using AutoDesk Inventor software, the newest, most powerful, and most intuitive solid modeling software.  In teams, participants will develop, document, and produce solid models and drawings of their solution to a design problem.  Teams will present their work to a panel of experts.  Each team’s presentation and design solution will be posted online, along with samples of each individual’s work.  Each participant will bring home color copies of all activities and a video clip of their animation presentations.

Participants will interact with design professionals to learn about the profession and the patent process and learn to work within deadlines and project constraints.
