About the Writing Center
Our Mission
The Southeastern Writing Center is committed to promoting excellence in writing across Southeastern Louisiana University's curriculum. The Center's trained staff members deliver a full range of writing services, including one-on-one conferencing and consultation, writing workshops, instructional handouts and resources, sponsored readings and discussions, traditional print and on-line publications, and computer assistance.
Our Instructional Philosophy
We work from the premise that all writers benefit from sharing and talking about their work on a regular basis with experienced and interested readers. That is the basic service we provide in the Center: an attentive ear of a knowledgeable but, more importantly, genuinely engaged reader.
All of our users can expect the following from their Writing Center consultations:
- no pre-set instructional agenda
- learner-centered guidance
- distinctively responsive instruction
- non-directive and deliberately non-evaluative discussion
Additionally, each consultant works with users to provide assistance with raising writing alternatives, foregrounding writing choices, and finding ways to help students improve the skills and essays they bring to the consultation.
