Upward Bound Program
The purpose of the Upward Bound Program is to generate, in low-income and first generation high school students, the academic strength, skills, and motivation required to ensure their success in postsecondary education. The program is designed to better prepare selected students to enter and complete a postsecondary educational program after the completion of high school.
The Upward Bound Program, available to students in Jefferson, Livingston, St. Helena, and Tangipahoa parishes, offers classes in mathematics, English, science, study skills, and foreign language. The program also addresses additional needs of the students by offering non-academic services (i.e., financial aid assistance, personal and career counseling, and ACT/SAT testing information).
Students participating in Upward Bound must attend 22 Saturday sessions at the University, throughout the academic school year, and a six-week summer residential program. During the Upward Bound summer residential program, students live on campus at Southeastern Louisiana University and attend academic and cultural classes designed to provide educational and cultural experiences.
Field trips, as well as educational and recreational activities throughout the area are an important part of our overall program!
