Educational Resources

Turtle Cove is a regional leadergirls netting in environmental education, particularly with regard to field oriented coursework and teacher workshops.  Its teacher workshops are aligned with the National Science Education Standards for both course content as well as professional development for K-12 teachers.  Our workshops have long been associated with the Lake Pontchartrain Basin Association and we currently maintain a close relationship with this and other environmental education organizations throughout the state.  You will see us at the Louisiana Science Teacher's Association conferences, and often the NSTA as well, always seeking to improve how we relate to students and teachers in southeast Louisiana.  Please take a look at the Teacher Workshops page for more information on Turtle Cove sponsored teacher workshops as well as other workshops held at Turtle Cove.

Educational ResourceThese workshops have both led directly to, and stemmed from, the production and publication of several books containing a wide variety of lesson plans, tips and suggestions for improving environmental education.  All of these books are either low cost or free to educators in the area.  In addition to these valuable resources are lesson plan documents assembled by teachers who have attended our workshops and been inspired by the beautiful wetlands surrounding Turtle Cove to create their own lesson plans.  As permitted, we have included these documents as well on our Lesson Plans page.  If you have developed lesson plans after attending our workshops, and don't mind us publishing your work on these pages, please drop the biologist on staff an email and we'll include (and credit) your work.

Educational ResourceThe Internet is a place of amazing diversity and usefulness, as well as a place of fluff and nonsense.  There exists an absolutely incredible amount of valuable resources for educators of all levels of skill and experience: the problem is... who has the time to research all these sites?  We don't know, but we do have the time to look at a number of resources in a few particular areas.  We post what we feel are some of the better ones on our WWW sites page.  Take a look.  Tell us if we're good.  Tell us if we're not.  Send us your favorite resource URLs.
