Math Science Upward Bound Students Receive TRIO Quest Awards
Summer 2010 W. Stevens
What student wouldn't jump at the chance to use their favorite technology to communicate with others, especially when encouraged by teachers. TRIO students are provided with such opportunities through the national TRIO Quest Program, in which their TRIO teachers guide them to create educational projects using the latest media technology with the purpose of sharing their ideas and information with others. Eighteen Southeastern Louisiana University Math Science Upward Bound students participated in last summer's TRIO Quest video competition with the help of Ms. Erin Wheeler and were nationally recognized for their video shorts.
"Peer Pressure," "Mistakes," "Bullying," "Think About It, Talk About It, Take Control" and "You're Worth the Wait" are familiar topics of teenage life...and they are titles of the video shorts submitted by the Southeastern Louisiana University Math Science Upward Bound students this past summer, with the help of Ms. Erin Wheeler.
"Bullying" was created, (written, directed, produced, edited, and starred in) by Richelle Barrett, Hunter Pena, Je'Darrien Frazier and Andreanet Macdonald; "Mistakes" was created by Tyn Fleet, Nykee Clark, Anthonia Neal, and Kadejah Banks; both video shorts received Quarterfinalist awards.
Commendations were awarded to Chantalyn Jackson, Josephine Stogner, Marrie Hills and Tiffany Wallace for "Think About It. Talk About It. Take Control;" Victoria Williams, Catey Pal, and Kaysheunna Holmes for "You're Worth the Wait;" and ReCinda Brumfield, Sonata Dunn and Sontrelle Solomon for "Peer Pressure."
Congratulations to all the students and their instructor for their good work! And we look forward to more edutainment from Math Science students this next summer.
