Math Science Upward Bound

The Southeastern Louisiana University's Upward Bound Math & Science Center is a federally funded TRIO program designed to prepare eligible high school students for successful admission into and completion of post-secondary degree programs that will lead to careers in mathematics and/or science.


This program assists students in the development of critical thinking, scientific, and analytical skills. Students will be given the opportunity to work in various laboratory environments, will be given hands-on computer experience and will be provided the opportunity to receive college credit in freshman math and science courses.

 

Who should apply?

  • Students who are currently enrolled in 9th or 10th grade.

  • Students who meet either or both of the following criteria

    • Students whose family's taxable income is no more than 150 percent of the federal poverty guidelines

    • Students whose parents have not graduated from a 4-year college or university (first generation college students)

  • Attending one of the following schools:
    • St. Helena and Washington Parish schools: Franklinton, Pine, Mt. Hermon or St. Helena Central high
    • Tangipahoa Parish schools: Amite, Hammond, Independence, Kentwood, Loranger, Pontchtoula or Sumner high.  
  • At least a 2.5 cumulative GPA and at least a 2.0 GPA in math and science classes.

The Math-Science Upward bound Program has both an academic year component during selected Saturdays (see current calendar) and a six-week summer residential component. Please click on the links above to view the curriculum and activities for each component.
