Standard 7 Focus Question 4
How does the leadership ensure that the improvement plan is implemented, monitored, achieved and communicated to stakeholders?
- Our school improvement plan revealed weaknesses in the areas of technology, personnel shortages, science scores and social studies scores.
- In regards to personnel shortages two paraprofessionals have been hired. One works as our computer tech and assists in the kindergarten. The second paraprofessional works with the first, second and third grades. To allow teachers additional time, we were able to re-work physical education, art, and music so that all teachers had sixty minutes of planning each day.
- Our technology effectiveness has been strengthened by staff attendance at technology conferences and grants resulting in the amount of $60,000. These funds were used to purchase technology materials (ie, smart boards, chalkboards, laptops). Additionally, we have hired a full time computer technician.
- Science and social studies will be address via lesson plans and conferences. Teachers have made a conscious effort to increase their delivery of these two concepts.
- The leadership monitors the implementation of these programs first via lesson plans. All teachers submit their lesson plans on-line using On-Course. Lesson plans are evaluated to ensure each teacher is teaching the required amount of minutes for each subject. Lesson plans are also monitored to ensure teachers are teaching their grade level GLE’s.
- Information about our school improvement plan is communicated to the stakeholders through open house, web sites, school report cards, “all-calls”, PTO meetings, class notes, e-mails, and the school calendar which can be found on our school webpage (www.selu.edu/labschool).
