Standard 7 Focus Question 3


What process is used to ensure that the school personnel are provided professional development and technical assistance to implement interventions and achieve improvement goals?


  • School personnel have been involved in a variety of professional development in-services that are instrumental in achieving improvement goals.  These in-services include the following:  design of classroom webpage’s (provide stakeholders with information on what is happening in the classroom as well as what is expected in the classroom), smart board and chalkboard utilization (provide teachers with training on how to use these tools to better disseminate information to the students), on-course lesson plans (allows administration to view lesson plans to ensure standards and GLE’s are being met), technology conferences (NETT Conference) (teachers learned how to integrate technology across the curriculum), digital camera workshops (teachers are able to document what they are doing in the classroom), Write From the Beginning/Future (teachers learned how to integrate writing across the curriculum), Dibbles (early identifier of student’s strengths and weaknesses), Project Read (remedial training for kids), Kagan (cooperative learning strategies), My Skills Tutor and EAGLE (Louisiana programs based on assisting students with passing the LEAP and iLEAP).

 

  • Teachers and administrators have also attended the following workshops, Horizons, School Improvement Plan workshop, Project PRISM, Dyslexia in-service, SACS Conference, United Streaming workshop, SRA Corrective Reading and Tangi Tech.   Five hundred dollars per teacher has been allocated for each teacher to attend at least one professional development conference per year.
