Question 2

Standard 7 Focus Question 2

What steps are taken to ensure that the improvement goals reflect student learning needs that are aligned with the vision and purpose of the school?

  • In order to ensure that improvement goals reflect student learning needs, teachers reviewed test data from the entire school to target specific areas needing improvement.  After reviewing the data, we analyze the information to target specific individual needs, and develop lesson plans based on student weaknesses.   Teachers generate classroom assessment instruments based on identified need(s) to correct weaknesses.  This process proved to be successful as indicated by the increase in our most recent school test scores.

  • We also have identified and purchase software that allows us to individualized instructions.  Computer programs such as AR, LA PASS, My Skills Tutor, and more recently EAGLE have all been implemented into lesson plans to ensure identified weaknesses are targeted.

  • Lastly, science and social studies have been identified as a weakness.  Up to this year, the focus of professional development has been in the areas of reading and math, however, our self-study has revealed that science and social studies is an area of need.  Teachers have made a concentrated effort to place greater emphasis on these two areas.  Teachers have also committee to attending professional development activities in these areas.
