Standard 5 Focus Question 2
How does the leadership ensure that the allocation of financial resources is supportive of the school’s vision, education programs, and its plans for school improvement?
- The Director of the Laboratory School has made increasing the school’s budget top priority over the last year. During that time, she has made plans for school improvement and has tapped into a wide variety of resources to obtain the financial support necessary to purchase and maintain classroom and school support materials, such as Smart Boards, In-Focus projectors, laptop computers, and programs, such as the after school tutoring program that will support those plans.
- Tangipahoa Parish has, for the first time in years, awarded our school with “Pay as You Go” funding, which was used to purchase smart boards, lap tops, clickers, printers, software, manipulative, flat screen TV’s, and in-focus projectors to name a few.
- Our school PTO raises money each year that goes toward the funding of thing that are beneficial to our students, such as equipment and materials for a school writing center, Accelerated Reader books and tests, and well-known author visits. Parents also donate funds on a regular basis to programs such as the after school tutoring program.
- This year, increased tuition was used to hire classroom and computer lab assistants, to defray travel and registration costs of professional growth opportunities for faculty members, hire a Spanish teacher, and to purchase additional supplies and equipment.
- The financial office of the Tangipahoa Parish School System routinely monitors spending of these funds by sending an auditor to check over financial records. Also, teachers are given, upon request a print out of their account balances to determine if they are accurate.
