Question 2

Standard 3 Focus Question 2

In what ways does the school ensure the implementation of research-based instructional strategies, innovations, and activities that facilitate achievement for all students?

5th Grade

  • We ensure the implementation of research-based strategies by attending professional development in the areas in which the parish and the school believe will benefit the students at the schools.  Several of the research-based instructional strategies and professional development activities we have attended and are using at the school are Accelerated Reading, My Skills Tutor, Thinking Maps, Write From the Beginning, and DRA; Write for the Future, Sustained Silent Reading, Accelerated Math, Project Read, Kagan and Reading Aloud.  All teachers in grades K-3 have been trained in Dibbles and the program will be instituted in the future.

  • Innovative programs and activities include the after school tutoring, honors math, school-wide reading incentive, school-wide news broadcast, arts programming, ELL/Rosetta Stone, plethora of sports options, and across grade level buddy activities.  Achievement for all students is facilitated by individualized programs such as: AR, My Skills Tutor, Project Read, after-school tutoring, university student direct teaching and tutoring, resource room, 504 accommodations, and the extended school year program. Paraprofessionals are employed to assist with student accommodations.
