Standard 3 Focus Question 1
How does the school ensure that the curriculum, instructional strategies, and assessments are aligned and articulated across grade levels in support of the expectations for student learning?

- The school ensures that the curriculum is in alignment across grade levels through documented lesson plans that lists grade level expectations (GLE) for each specific lesson. Lesson plans are aligned with GLE’s via the parish adopted computer-based program called On-Course. Teachers turn in their lesson plans Monday morning and the plans are checked by the administrations. Teachers also received an in-service on the importance of teaching their grade specific GLE’s to ensure the teacher in the grade above them will have students who have mastered the previous years GLE’s. Along that same line, many school-wide buddy activities are planned that go across grade levels in support of student learning and expectations.
- The Laboratory school also uses a variety of sound pedagogical instructional strategies that are research based and academically sound. Teachers meet regularly to share these strategies. Teachers are also provided with the latest research-based textbooks to help them improve their teaching skills.
- The school ensures assessments are aligned and articulated through the use of
JPAMS. This online program allows stakeholders to have immediate access to their child’s assessment results. Students are also placed on the State of Louisiana’s web site to practice their skills via “My Skills Tutor, EAGLE, and Louisiana Pass”. Teachers use these programs to monitor student’s mastery of the state’s GLE’s. Student work is also on display throughout the school.
- Curriculum, instructional strategies, and assessments are articulated through faculty meetings, web pages, On Course, JPAMS, committee meetings, email communications, school assemblies, parent conferences and All Call. Stakeholders are directed to the state web site for standards and benchmarks http://mconn.doe.state.la.us/
