Standard 2 Focus Question 4
What policies and processes are in place to ensure equity of learning opportunities and support for innovation?

- We follow the Parish’s policy on identifying and supporting those students with special needs (see artifacts). We also follow the Court’s mandate of racial balance at the school. Students at the Lab School are not discriminated against based on their gender, racial, or national origin. Students who cannot afford to attend the Lab School who qualify to attend are offered a tuition waiver.
- Financial resources are utilized for student learning materials, professional development and innovation. Last year over $80,000 was secured in outside funding to support teacher and school wide innovation. Each classroom has a Smart board, and electronic chalk boards. Teachers received laptops and were trained on maintaining a class website. The school has a smart cart, 5 sets of clickers, school-wide subscriptions to on-line educational programs, and a full time computer teacher. The school has two 42 inch flat screen televisions which each has a specific purpose. The first TV is located in the school foyer and is used as a LEAP tool. Power point presentations are created with LEAP information and facts displayed as well as school events. The second is located in the library and stays on CNN, the weather channel, or any other late breaking news event the students at the school should be aware of. We also established a k-3 reading section at the school.
