Standard 2 Focus Question 2
What process does the school’s leadership use to evaluate school effectiveness and student performance?

- The leadership uses state standardized test scores, state issued school report cards, and continuous evaluation of student’s academic progress to evaluate student performance. We also look at the activities students are involved in out of school. For example, during the 2006-2007 school year, the Laboratory had the parish elementary student of the year, the parish middle school student of the year, the State geography bee champion, along with parish science fair and social studies winners.
- Leadership also relies on student feedback. Students wanted a student government association; consequently, SGA was established at the school. School effectiveness is also evaluated based on parent, community, university, and parish feedback. Students also wanted additional sport teams. Consequently, 4 new sport teams were added; soccer, volleyball, cheerleading, and track.
- School effectiveness is also evaluated based on our peer schools. Leadership traveled to New York this summer to visit several schools to see how and what other Laboratory Schools are doing to improve the overall effectiveness of their school. This visit provided leadership with a wealth of ideas which were implemented during the summer months.
