Question 4

Conclusion Focus Question 4

How will you use the insights gained from this self-assessment to inform and enhance your quality assurance and continuous improvement efforts?

  • As we gather data and artifacts for this self-assessment, we noticed the school is doing a great job with informing and inviting stakeholders to participate in school activities.  However, there is always room for improvement.  The surveys we sent out to parents told us a lot about ourselves that we did not expect to emerge.  For example, in one survey, parents stated that they would like the school to offer certain programs (i.e. DARE), little did the parents know, the school did in deed offer the program they suggested.  This lack of communication between the school and the parents taught us that we had to continuously keep the lines of communication open between the school and parents.

  • This assessment required us to step up our technology efforts.  We realized we were behind with how we submitted report cards to parents, how we communicated to parents and how we wrote up our lesson plans.  This assessment made us develop classroom web-pages, our-line grade submission, a system for mass emails to parents and other stakeholders, and GLE-based on-line submission of lesson plans.

  • We also discovered that we have to put forth more effort on Science and Social Studies.  When we completed our trend analysis, it was obvious the gaps we had in the curriculum when we compared the student’s math and reading scores to their science and social studies scores.  Although our SPS is 121, we now know that by attending professional development activities as well as putting additional resources into science and social studies there is no reason why our test scores can not be 140 or higher.
