Lab School Faculty Members



Patti Gautreaux teaches kindergarten at the Lab School.  She received both her B.A. and Masters degrees in education from Southeastern. She has been teaching for twenty-one years, the last fourteen of which have been at our school.  She enjoys the friendly, family atmosphere at the Lab School.

Joanne Showalter is the first grade teacher at Southeastern Lab School.  She received her B.S., Masters degree, and reading specialist degree from Florida State University.  She is also a certified kindergarten teacher.  Joanne has been teaching for twenty-six years, the last sixteen of which have been spent here.  She says that teaching here is never boring because of the many varied experiences we have and the fact that we are always "stretching to do new things."  She loves the kids, specifically watching them learn to read and write in her classroom.

Andrea Laborde Turner is the Lab School’s second grade teacher.  She received both B.A. and M.Ed. degrees from Southeastern.  She has a certification in Library Science. This is her 30th year teaching.  She has been teaching at the Laboratory School for twenty-one years.  Sixteen of those years she served as school librarian. She enjoys being at the Lab School because it provides a stimulating environment in which to teach. It encourages intellectual growth and supports implementation of new techniques, while respecting sound practices and traditions. The combination of flexibility and innovation is very exciting!  Reading and nature are her passions!

Theresa Tageant is the Lab School's third grade teacher.  She earned her B.A., M.Ed., and Plus 30 degrees at Southeastern and is certified in elementary grades and to work with children with learning disabilities.  She is our school's SBLC chairperson and says she enjoys working with such wonderful people.

Cheri Jeanfreau has been teaching for eleven years and has been a part of the Lab School faculty as our fourth grade teacher for three years. Her B.A. and Masters degrees are from Southeastern. She is a certified special education teacher and has a minor in visual arts.  Cheri loves the family atmosphere of the school and the children whom she describes as "funny, kind, smart, and polite." Johnnie Whisenhunt, our fifth grade teacher, has been teaching for twenty-eight years. She has been at the Lab  School for fourteen years, and loves teaching the students and watching them learn as she works side-by-side with her friends.  Both her B.A. and M.Ed. degrees are from Southeastern.

Cynthia Faller, our sixth grade teacher, is our social studies specialist for sixth, seventh, and eighth graders.  She received both B.A. and M.Ed. degrees from Southeastern.  She has a certification in speech and hearing and also in elementary counseling.  The last eighteen of her thirty-one years of teaching have been at the Lab School, where she enjoys the wonderful sense of community and family.

Dianne Morgan thinks science is cool!  She is our seventh grade teacher and teaches science to our 6th, 7th, & 8th graders.  She has been teaching for sixteen years in schools in Baton Rouge, Houma, and New Orleans.  She received her certification in education from Southern University in Baton Rouge and is currently working toward her Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Southeastern.  She loves being a part of the Lab School’s family.  You can email her at Dianne.Morgan@selu.edu, check out her website at Ms.dmorgan.teach-nology.com,  or contact her through the office by calling 985-549-2185.


Dorothy Boyette loves numbers!  She is our eighth grade teacher and teaches math to our sixth, seventh, and eighth graders.  She received both her B.A. and M.Ed. degrees from Southeastern and has been teaching for seventeen years.  This is the beginning of her fourth year at the Lab School.  She enjoys teaching in an atmosphere where students are eager to learn and says, "The faculty here is phenomenal!"

Noelle Bordelon is both resource teacher and 7th grade language arts teacher at Southeastern Lab School. She received her B.S. from Northeast Louisiana University and her Masters degree in Special Education from Southeastern Louisiana Unviversity. Her regular education certifications include nursery school, kindergarten, and grades one through eight. Her special education certifications include: non-categorical preschool, kindergarten, and grades one through twelve. She is currently completing her Plus 30 at Southeastern. This is her tenth year teaching. After staying home with her children for six years, she began teaching here last year. She loves teaching special education! She believes that all children can learn and thrives on helping each individual student determine the way he or she learns best.

Dr. Gina Anthon, our music specialist, is beginning her fourth year at our school.  She has been teaching for eight years and holds a BMEd.  from Southeastern,  a Master of Music from the University of Michigan, and a D.M.A. from L.S.U. She says, "The emphasis on culture makes the Lab School an interesting place to teach.  Thanks to S.L.U., the Lab School can offer enrichment opportunities that other schools cannot."

Denise Tullier-Holly, the Lab School's art teacher, has been teaching for seventeen years.  She has been associated with our school for the last twelve years.  She received her B.A. from the University of Maryland and her Masters degree from Southeastern.  She enjoys teaching at the Lab School because she feels blessed to be able to observe students' development as unique individuals from kindergarten to eighth grade. The art program invites them to express themselves in a visual manner. Their handmade objects are the gems of their art processes.

Stephanie Rau, our physical education teacher, was awarded her B.S. in physical education from New Mexico State University and her M.A. in Sport Pedagogy from L.S.U.  She has been teaching for seven years.  Six of these have been at the Lab School. Denitral Buckles Wells has been working with students for eight years and started working at the Lab School in October of 2006. She is certified by Tangipahoa Parish School Board as a paraprofessional.  She earned an Associate’s Degree from Southeastern, were she is still attenting classes to further her education. She has a passion for children and believes in empowering our future generation. Denitral enjoys the small environment at the Lab School where she can get to know the students well.

Natalie Davis has been working with students for six years, all of which have been here at the Lab School.  She is certified by Tangipahoa Parish School Board as a paraprofessional and is now working with the special education class. She loves being able to work with such exceptional children and educators.
