Lab School Faculty Members



Alyssa Hebert teaches kindergarten at the Lab School. This is the beginning of her 17th year teaching and her first at the Lab School. Her B.A. and teaching certificate were earned at Pacific Lutheran University.  She received her Masters from City University.

Joanne Showalter is the first grade teacher at Southeastern Lab School.  She received her B.S., Masters degree, and reading specialist degree from Florida State University.  She is also a certified kindergarten teacher.  Joanne has been teaching for twenty-eight years, the last seventeen of which have been spent here.  She says that teaching here is never boring because of the many varied experiences we have and the fact that we are always "stretching to do new things."  She loves the kids, specifically watching them learn to read and write in her classroom.

Andrea Laborde Turner is the Lab School’s second grade teacher.  She received both B.A. and M.Ed. degrees from Southeastern.  She has a certification in Library Science. This is her 32nd year teaching.  She has been teaching at the Laboratory School for twenty-three years.  Sixteen of those years she served as school librarian. She enjoys being at the Lab School because it provides a stimulating environment in which to teach. It encourages intellectual growth and supports implementation of new techniques, while respecting sound practices and traditions. The combination of flexibility and innovation is very exciting!  Reading and nature are her passions!

Theresa Tageant is the Lab School's third grade teacher.  She earned her B.A., M.Ed., and Plus 30 degrees at Southeastern and is certified in elementary grades and to work with children with learning disabilities.  She is our school's SBLC chairperson and says she enjoys working with such wonderful people.

Cheri Jeanfreau has been teaching for thirteen years and has been a part of the Lab School faculty as our fourth grade teacher for five years. Her B.A. and Masters degrees are from Southeastern. She is a certified special education teacher and has a minor in visual arts.  Cheri loves the family atmosphere of the school and the children whom she describes as "funny, kind, smart, and polite." Johnnie Whisenhunt, our fifth grade teacher, has been teaching for thirty years. She has been at the Lab  School for sixteen years, and loves teaching the students and watching them learn as she works side-by-side with her friends.  Both her B.A. and M.Ed. degrees are from Southeastern.

Donna Arnone, our sixth grade teacher, is new to the Lab School.  She is the sixth, seventh, and eighth grade math teacher.  Although this is second year at the Lab School, she has taught for 15 years.  She received her B.A. from Southeastern and her Masters Degree in Administration and Supervision from the University of Southern Mississippi.  Her plus 30 is also from Southeastern.  She is also certified in special education for grades one through twelve and is highly qualified to teach math and social studies.  Mrs. Arnone is excited to become part of the Lab School family!

Noelle Bordelon is both resource teacher and 7th grade language arts teacher at Southeastern Lab School. She received her B.S. from Northeast Louisiana University and her Masters degree in Special Education from Southeastern Louisiana University. Her regular education certifications include nursery school, kindergarten, and grades one through eight. Her special education certifications include: non-categorical preschool, kindergarten, and grades one through twelve. She is currently completing her Plus 30 at Southeastern. This is her twelfth year teaching. After staying home with her children for six years, she began teaching here three years ago. She loves teaching special education! She believes that all children can learn and thrives on helping each individual student determine the way he or she learns best.

Kayla Lamonte, our eighth grade teacher, is the social studies teacher for eighth grade and teaches 6th and 8th grade language arts. She is certified to teach grades one through eight.  She earned a Masters Degree in Curriculum and Instruction, a reading specialist degree, and her plus 30 degree in Administration, and Supervision. 
This is her eighth year teaching and her first year at the Lab School. She is
so enthusiastic and says she is excited to work with such wonderful people and
outstanding, motivated students! She believes she is in the absolute best place on
earth!

Denise Tullier-Holly, the Lab School's art teacher, has been teaching for nineteen years.  She has been associated with our school for the last thirteen years.  She received her B.A. from the University of Maryland and her Masters degree from Southeastern.  She enjoys teaching at the Lab School because she feels blessed to be able to observe students' development as unique individuals from kindergarten to eighth grade. The art program invites them to express themselves in a visual manner. Their handmade objects are the gems of their art processes.

Shawn Messina is the librarian at the Lab School.  She has been teaching for eighteen years.  This is her seventh year at the Lab School.  Her B.A., Masters Degree, and Plus 30 are all from Southeastern.  She loves the atmosphere of the school and being able watch every child as they grow and mature over the years.  Find out what is happening in the library by connecting to our library page, or email Mrs. Messina at smessina@selu.edu.

 

Stephanie Rau, our physical education teacher, was awarded her B.S. in physical education from New Mexico State University and her M.A. in Sport Pedagogy from L.S.U.  She has been teaching for nine years.  Eight of these have been at the Lab School. She enjoys being part of the Lab School family and working in the university environment.

Denitral Buckles Wells has been working with students for ten years and started working at the Lab School in October of 2006. She is certified by Tangipahoa Parish School Board as a paraprofessional.  She earned an Associate’s Degree from Southeastern, were she is still attenting classes to further her education. She has a passion for children and believes in empowering our future generation. Denitral enjoys the small environment at the Lab School where she can get to know the students well.

Natalie Davis has been working with students for seven years, all of which have been here at the Lab School.  She is certified by Tangipahoa Parish School Board as a paraprofessional and is now working with the special education class. She loves being able to work with such exceptional children and educators.

Andrea Hilliard just is our computer lab guru and athletic director!
