Reasons to Participate in a Study Abroad Program

Reasons to Participate in the "La Douce France" Study Abroad Program

•  Cultural Development

You will have a unique opportunity to experience the culture and customs of French speaking countries. You will visit famous museums & monuments and learn about famous artists and historical figures. Being in a country where French is spoken gives you a window on life in  another part of the world.  You will see first hand how people live in big cities and in the country. You will have the unique opportunity to stay with host families and to be the invited guests of the town of  Jouars-Ponchartrain (Hammond's twin city in France!)  You will also participate in Bastille Day festivities as the invited guests of the town of Vanves. All of these cultural experiences will change your world view and make you a more informed and better prepared citizen of the world.

•  New Perspectives on World Affairs

You will expand your knowledge of international affairs and develop a greater appreciation for the importance of globalization. This happens as you learn how other countries function and the role we all play in the world community.

•  Career Development

Students majoring in a variety of disciplines, including business, pre-law, marketing, history, biology, nursing, communication, art, psychology, and education expand their career opportunities through participation in Study Abroad programs.  Employers are well aware that those who have traveled abroad have a maturity and a world view that cannot be achieved by those who never leave home.  You come home different, enhanced by all you have seen and learned.

•  Enhancement of Resume

Regardless of the discipline, potential employers value students who demonstrate a desire to expand their educational opportunities through programs such as Study Abroad.  They know they are hiring an employee who has a sensitivity and a scope that others are missing.

•  Opportunity to Make Friendships and Create Memories

Study Abroad programs provide students with an excellent opportunity to develop friendships and create memories that will last a lifetime.  This is especially true of the France program where students stay with host families and have the opportunity to spend time with students their own age. Students will have many other unique moments during the trip such as attending the Bastille Day Parade, visiting a champagne cave, touring castles of the Loire Valley, and much more! These moments are precious and remain long after the trip is over.
