 Courses Offered:

GBIO 492 or 593: The Biogeography of the Galapagos Islands

This trip features a visit to the Galapagos Archipelago, a World Heritage site nominated as one of the world's new 7 Natural Wonders, a partnership program of the United Nations and the New 7 Wonders Foundation.

The Galapagos Islands are most famous for inspiring the brilliant mind of Charles Darwin to propose his theory of the Origin of the Species, a cornerstone of science that has and will continue to permeate society for many years as one of the most fundamental and influential theories in history.

During the trip we will explore the origins and composition of the unique wildlife present in this archipelago, including marine (e.g. sea turtles and sea lions) as well as terrestrial (e.g. land tortoises) and aerial (e.g. finches and albatrosses) organisms.

Because of the natural history we will study and the majestic setting where the course will be taught, this will undoubtedly constitute a transformative experience for all participants, biologists and non-biologists alike.
