Sea Turtle Biology in Costa Rica

This page will be updated as information becomes available...

This trip features a visit to San Jose, Costa Rica.  This trip focuses on the study and conservation of Sea Turtles.

During the trip you will  study endangered Sea Turtles from a hands-on perspective.  The purpose of this program is to educate students on the plight of these ancient reptiles for survival, the reasons why all extant populations are in peril, and the effors of many organizations to protect these magnificent creatures.

Costa Rica contains five of the seven species of Sea Turtles on Earth.  Students will have an opportunity to work with the largest Green Sea Turtle nesting colony in the Atlantic basin at Tortuguero National Park and one of the largest colonies of Olive Ridley Sea Turtles in the Pacific at the Ostional National Wildlife Refuge.

Because of the natural history we will study and the majestic setting where the course will be taught, this will undoubtedly constitute a transformative experience for all participants, biologists and non-biologists alike.
