Reasons to participate in a program

Study Abroad adds an invaluable dimension to a student’s academic, cultural, and professional development, and provides advantages in an increasingly competitive job market. First hand experience in other countries and cultures allows a clearer understanding of ourselves, our own society and culture, our place in the global community, and our common human heritage. 

Cultural Development

Participants will have a unique opportunity to experience the culture and customs of different countries. They will experience and compare the lifestyles of people in those countries, and hopefully, gain a window on life in another part of the world.  Students will visit famous museums and monuments which commemorate the events and people who helped to shape that country's identity. This will change their worldview and make them more informed and better prepared citizens of the world.

New Perspectives on World Affairs

Students will expand their knowledge of international affairs and develop a greater appreciation for the importance of globalization. This happens as they learn how other economies and governments function, which allows the participant to better understand the roles that different countries play in the world community.

Career Development

Students majoring in a variety of disciplines, including business, history, biology, literature, communication, languages studies, art, psychology, and education expand their career opportunities through participation in Study Abroad programs.  Employers are well aware that those who have traveled abroad have a maturity and a worldview that cannot be achieved by those who never leave home.  You come home enlightened by all you have witnessed and learned. 

Enhancement of Resume

Regardless of the discipline, potential employers value students who demonstrate a desire to expand their educational opportunities through programs such as Study Abroad.  They know that they are hiring an employee who has a sensitivity and a scope that others are missing.
