Forms for Study Abroad:

2010 Study Abroad Application

Letter of Recommendation #1

Letter of Recommendation #2

Step 1:  Set up an interview with your Faculty Program Coordinator.  This is the Faculty member who is leading your trip overseas.  At this meeting, you and your Coordinator will discuss the classes and what's to be expected during your trip.

The Coordinator will send the Course Approval Form to the Study Abroad Office, indicating that you have his or her approval to attend based on this interview.

Step 2: Print out the Study Abroad application above, or go by McGehee Hall 210 to pick one up.  Please fill out the application completely!  You can also get Scholarship applications online or in McGehee Hall 210.

Step 3:  Give a Letter of Recommendation form (included in application packet) to two different teachers and have them either send it directly to International Initiatives or return them to us yourself.  They cannot be completed by the teachers accompanying you on your trip!

Step 4:  Take passport sized photographs and attach the required number to the application.

Step 5:  Bring in application to International Initiatives, along with your $100 non-refundable deposit (check or money order).  The Study Abroad office will only accept applications that are accompanied by this deposit and will only accept applicants who have a Course Approval on file from the Faculty Coordinator.

Step 6:  A staff member at International Initiatives will sit with you at the time you turn in your application to make sure that you fully understand the process, the stipulations, and advise you on how to proceed for your particular program.

Step 7:   You will receive an electronic acceptance letter, officially welcoming you to your program!  This is the point at which you are eligible for any Scholarships you have applied for.

Step 8:  Here are things you can do while you are waiting for your acceptance letter:

1- Apply for scholarships.  Including the SGA Study Abroad Scholarship, the Charles Redman Scholarship, The IGDD Scholarship, and other scholarships that may be offered by your own department.  Make sure you don't miss the deadlines!

2- Visit the Financial Aid Office and make sure that your financial aid is configured for Study Abroad.  After this visit, you should bring proof of financial aid for Study Abroad to the International Initiatives office.

3- Apply for your passport!  It can take several months to come in and you don't want to wait and apply too close to deadlines!  You can apply locally through your United States Post Office.  You must have at least six months validity on your passport at the time of travel to use it, so if you already have a passport, make sure that you meet this requirement.  If it is less than six months until the expiration date, you need to get a new one.

Special Note:  If you are planning to go on a trip to China or to Australia, you will need to take care of getting a current passport as early as possible, and you will need to bring it to the Study Abroad office, so that we may obtain your Visa for you!  Your passport will be returned to you before your trip with a Visa.

4- Take care of individual program requirements.  Some programs may require an extra form, such as a Visa form, or extra passport sized photographs for foreign university ID cards.

Step 9:  You are now enrolled in Study Abroad!  Make sure to check your email daily, as it is the primary means of communication between you and the International Initiatives Office!  Please don't hesitate to call or visit International Initiatives with any questions, concerns, or assistance during this process, as it is our goal to help you have a fun, rewarding, and successful trip abroad!
