Thesis Binding Policies
THESIS BINDING POLICIES
Number of Copies
The Library will bind a maximum of seven (7) copies of the thesis. These must include two copies for permanent storage in the Library. Of the five remaining copies, students should check with their Thesis Director to determine the number of copies that are required according to departmental policy.
Type of Paper
The two originals for the Library's use must be on 20 pound weight paper of AT LEAST 50 percent cotton fiber content. The remaining copies may be on regular photocopy quality paper. The student is responsible for providing the 20 pound weight, 50% cotton fiber paper to a copy store and having the remaining copies made.
Cost of Binding
The University charges $35.00 for the first three copies, and $10.00 for each additional copy. Thesis binding fees must be paid to the Controller's Office prior to submission of the thesis to The Office of Research and Graduate Studies for binding.
Required Documentation
At the time of submission of the thesis to The Office of Research and Graduate Studies, the student must provide the original receipt from the Controller's Office for payment of the binding fee for the submitted number of copies. Each thesis copy must include a Thesis Approval Form, signed by the Thesis Director, the members of the Thesis Committee, the Department Head, and the Dean of The Office of Research and Graduate Studies.
Physical Layout
Each copy of the thesis must be intact, with the pages numbered in correct order according to the thesis style used by the department. BE SURE TO LEAVE A 1 1/2 INCH LEFT-HAND MARGIN FOR THE BINDING. Copies of the thesis must be separated from each other by colored paper, or each individual copy must be contained in a manila envelope or box. THESIS COPIES CAN NOT BE STAPLED OR HELD TOGETHER WITH PAPER CLIPS, ETC.
IT IS UP TO THE STUDENT TO INSURE THAT ALL PAGES ARE IN CORRECT ORDER, RIGHT SIDE UP, ETC.
Turning in Thesis
Thesis copies must be turned in to The Office of Research and Graduate Studies(Meade Hall, Room 103). The Office of Research and Graduate Studies will transport the thesis to the Library for binding. The Library will not accept thesis copies from anyone other than employees of The Office of Research and Graduate Studies.
Picking Up Bound Copies
The Office of Research and Graduate Studieswill delivery the departments' and students' bound copies to the student's departmental office. The departmental office will notify the student that the bound thesis may be picked up in the departmental office.
