English as a Second Language (ESL)
Course Overview:
Designed for individuals who have little to no background in English, this course will focus on basic vocabulary, pronunciation, listening and writing skills. The course is designed to be fun, with games, videos, songs, and other activities. If desired, students may complete the ELLIS basic level. An Individualized Instructional Plan will be created to meet student needs based on their personal language proficiency-level after the first class meeting. This will determine the schedule for lecture, and/or hours available for Ellis Program (for non-credit students not on F 1 Visa). Course components include: 2-3 lectures per week; group conversation sessions; PowerPoint presentations on grammar, mechanis, punctuation, and spelling; US cultural lessons; TOEFL pre-test. Students on F 1 Visa are required to take a minimum of 10 class hrs./wk and 10 lab hrs./wk.
