Achieve Your Dreams at Southeastern!
As Beginning or Transfer Freshmen 
At Southeastern, new freshmen are not set adrift in the sea of confusion that can be a first-time college experience. Rather, they are guided by the professional academic advising services of the Center for Student Excellence (CSE) for their first two semesters.
- Students begin their academic journeys at the orientation program. Students become acquainted with their CSE Advisors and departmental Undergraduate Coordinators. They also become familiar with general University academic expectations, policies, and procedures.
- Students complete Southeastern (SE) 101where they learn about the University, academic expectations, college study skills, time management, career exploration, and academic support resources. The classes are taught by CSE Advisors as well as faculty from throughout the University.
- During their first semester, students meet with their CSE Advisors where they: (1) complete an academic map, (2) complete an at-risk assessment and follow through on prescribed actions as needed, (3) explore career possibilities as appropriate, and (4) complete course selection and registration for the following semester.
- At the end of two regular semesters, students are expected to have successfully completed SE 101, have a high degree of confidence in the choice of their majors, and have identified any at-risk factors and solutions. The student is then referred to the Undergraduate Coordinator in the department who, in turn, assigns the student to a Faculty Mentor.
Career Exploration for Future Students
During your journey from beginning to accomplished freshmen, you will probably make many decisions that will affect the course of your education. The Center for Student Excellence has many online and advisor-led opportunities to get to know yourself better and make wise selections about majors and potential career paths. There are options to better understand your personality, interests, values, and skills. You can visit the online Occupational Outlook Handbook for more information about possible careers.
