Preparing for a Job in Communications

  1. Work at campus newspaper, yearbook staff, TV or radio station.
  2. Find internship at market research firm, newspaper, television or radio stations, etc.
  3. Compile portfolio of writing, graphics and ideas for creative development.
  4. Get computer knowledge as well of printing and production.
  5. Participate in debates.
  6. Gain knowledge of community and its needs.
  7. Demonstrate assertiveness, creativity, initiative, outgoing personality and diplomacy.
  8. Coordinate and promote special events on campus or in the community.
  9. Perfect public speaking ability.
  10. Audition for plays in school or amateur community groups.
  11. Volunteer to work backstage, crew, scenery, props, costumes, or as an extra.
  12. Volunteer for directing students needing to make films.
  13. Join professional organizations related to area of interest.
