Teacher Scholars Program

Teacher Scholars Program

Information about the Teacher Scholars Program

What Is the Teacher Scholars Program?

The Teacher Scholar Program is designed for beginning elementary-level teachers recognized as outstanding, future educators, and potential leaders. These beginning teachers receive intensive support while participating in the graduate program of study leading to a Master of Education Degree.

The Teacher Scholars Program involves an exchange between Southeastern Louisiana University (SLU) and local school districts. Teacher Scholars are certified, first year teachers employed by Southeastern and placed in participating local school districts. In exchange, master teachers from participating school districts serve as Link Teachers providing support for the Southeastern Teacher Scholars. Link Teachers also share their expertise and bring a practitioner’s perspective to the teacher training program at Southeastern.

Teacher Scholars are supported by a graduate fellowship and receive 36 tuition-free graduate hours. Over 15 months, Teacher Scholars complete 36 hours toward a Master of Education Degree with specialization in either Curriculum and Instruction or Special Education.
