CEDSAR Activities

FALL 2008 CEDSAR ACTIVITIES

  Tuesday Tea & Two

CEDSAR instituted Tuesday Tea at Two so the COEHD faculty could get
together and network in the Faculty Resource Room, TEC 246.  Tuesday
Tea's at Two will be offered starting in the Spring 2009
semester.  It’s a great way to catch up on what’s going on with each
faculty member and to bounce new ideas off each other while sampling
a nice cup of hot tea and crumpets.  Check out images from our first
  tea.

  Brown Bags

Brown Bag Discussions occur monthly in CEDSAR on a variety of topics
ranging from Course Portfolios (December's topic), Qualitative
Research (October's topic) to Diversity (November's topic).  Each
discussion is led by College of Education and Human Development
faculty.  See images from our October, November and December brown
  bag discussions.

  Professional Development Services

CEDSAR facilitates the planning of professional development
trainings between area schools’ PK – 12  teachers and the College of
Education and Human Development faculty.  These trainings are
offered as a professional courtesy. To view a list of offerings for
  2009, click here.

  Diversity Research Groups

CEDSAR has solicited COEHD faculty to join the Teaching Diverse
Students Initiative,  a project sponsored by AACTE, in cooperation
with The Southern Poverty Law Center and the National Education
Association.  As a part of this project faculty will conduct mini-
research projects with four groups;  undergraduate teacher candidates,
graduate teacher candidates, K-12 partner faculty, and the COEHD
faculty.  See the diagram that identifies participants in the groups.

  • Course Portfolio Working Group - Dr. Becky Parton and Dr. Elizabeth Rhodes will collaborate on a course portfolio project. A course portfolio is a scholarly project reflecting the choices an instructor makes in designing, implementing, and evaluating a course. More than just a collection of teaching materials, the course portfolio represents the exploration of an instructor's teaching practice through inquiry and reflection, with the ultimate focus on student learning. Therefore, all course portfolios are works in progress as the instructor continues to redesign and implement aspects of a course after examining results of both student and self-learning.

  • Brown Bag with CEDSAR - Come and join us for a Brown Bag Session- you bring the lunch (BYOL), and we bring the drinks and sweets.  Our first session on the topic,  "Qualitative Research - When do you know it is of quality?" will be led by Dr. Mindy Crane Dorough.
