Contributing to Our Community

The Southeastern Louisiana University takes seriously its obligation to contribute to the intellectual and cultural enrichment of the Northshore region.  Our faculty speak and perform throughout the area and consult for community, governmental and educational organizations.  Many of our students volunteer their skills as teachers and performers.

In addition to performances by university students and faculty, Southeastern regularly hosts a number of invitational events for regional high school students.  Our facilities are used throughout the year for rehearsals and performances by district and regional honor ensembles.

Most departmental performances are free and open to the public.  Check our calendar of events to view the date, time, and locations for the current semester.

Beyond its many performances, the Department of Music and Dramatic Arts offers a Community Music School that offers students of all ages the opportunity to explore and develop their musical knowledge, talents and abilities.  Students can study music theory, take private lessons or play in chamber ensembles through the CMS.

During the summer, the department also presents the Summer Music Festival, offering a variety of summer music program to students in grades 3-12.
