Athletic Training Education
What is an Athletic Trainer?
Board of Certification (BOC) Certified ATs are healthcare professionals who collaborate with physicians to optimize activity and participation of patients and clients. Athletic training encompasses the prevention, diagnosis and intervention of emergency, acute and chronic medical conditions involving impairment, functional limitations and disabilities. Athletic training is recognized by the American Medical Association (AMA) as a healthcare profession.
This Athletic Training Education Program (ATEP) is designed to provide a comprehensive, progressive educational and clinical preparation for a career in athletic training. Through didactic and clinical education experiences, each student shall develop competency in the following practice domains of athletic training:
- Injury/Illness Prevention and Wellness Protection
- Clinical Evaluation and Diagnosis
- Immediate and Emergency Care
- Treatment and Rehabilitation
- Organizational and Professional Health and Well-being

Students engage in rigorous classroom study and clinical education in a variety of practice settings such as high schools, colleges/universities, hospitals, emergency rooms, physician offices and healthcare clinics over the course of the degree program.
