National Chapter: Phi Alpha Theta
Southeastern Louisiana University is home to the Ro Phi chapter of the national history honor society, Phi Alpha Theta. Students with a record of academic excellence and a
demonstrated commitment to the study of history may present themselves as candidates for membership in the honor society.Mission: According to the mission statement of the national chapter, Phi Alpha Theta seeks “to promote the study of history through the encouragement of research, good teaching, publication and the exchange of learning and ideas among historians." To this end, the Ro Phi chapter and the undergraduate History Club organize a number of gatherings each semester to bring students and faculty together for discussion of topics of historical interest. Additionally, Ro Phi members regularly represent Southeastern at annual meetings of the regional convention of Phi Alpha Theta and at other academic conferences.

Requirements for Membership: Membership in the honor society is not limited to history majors. Any undergraduate who has completed at least 12 semester hours in history (4 courses) with a GPA of at least 3.1 in history, and with a GPA of 3.0 or better overall, may join. Graduate students who have completed a minimum of 12 semester hours towards their master's degree in history with a GPA of better than 3.5 are qualified for membership.
