Xi Ro Chapter of Sigma Tau Delta
To involve students in service, encourage their talents, and foster their involvement in the larger community of scholars, the Department of English sponsors both an English Club and the Xi Ro Chapter of the International English Honor Society, Sigma Tau Delta, an organization honoring these majoring or minoring in one of the curricula in our department who maintain a 3.0 average in both their major/minor and their overall GPA. The English Club regularly visits schools and other organizations to read and encourage love of reading among young people. Through their used book sales, held every semester, the group helps fund Sigma Tau Delta’s yearly trip to the International Convention, where these talented students present their original works, competing in areas of original fiction, poetry, critical essays, and creative essays. This competition has resulted in several awards for Southeastern students and publication in the organization’s international journal, The Rectangle. Through Sigma Tau Delta, our students can also compete for scholarships and internships. Click on Sigma Tau Delta for the National Website.
