Message from the Department Head

currieWelcome to our web site! Let me tell you about our department and programs of study.

Our department offers a Bachelor of Science degree, which upon completion, provides students with the required educational and clinical experience to be licensed in Louisiana as a speech-language pathology assistant (SLPA). We are one of only three public universities in the state that provides undergraduate students with clinical experiences sufficient to meet the criteria for licensure. Our students treat clients who have a variety of communication disorders in the department’s Speech-Language and Hearing Clinic.

Students pursing a Master of Science degree in speech-language pathology will gain the knowledge and skills required for national certification and state licensure. Graduate students are admitted into our program twice a year, and we offer full-time and part-time enrollment. Students obtain clinical experience working with children and adults in at least three different settings including hospitals, rehabilitation centers, private practices, and schools.

We have an extremely active student organization. Southeastern’s chapter of the National Student Speech-Language-Hearing Association was selected the Outstanding Chapter in the country in 2004. Students attend our state and national conventions, and we have a strong record of student-faculty research with presentations at professional meetings.

Interested? Come by and see us in Campbell Hall. We'll be glad to give you a tour of our facilities and talk with you about our programs.
