CSIT Departmental Seminar

"Working in the Gaming Industry"

11/24/09  David Driggers

After graduating from Southeastern, Mr. Driggers went to the Guildhall at SMU in Dallas, where he earned a certificate in Software Engineering for Digital Games. Some of the projects he worked on there included developing an engine framework that featured things like a shader pipeline, animation, audio system, terrain, etc. He also created mods with Unreal 2.5, Quake 2, and the Source Engine. This was his student portfolio: website: http://students.guildhall.smu.edu/~ddriggers

Mr. Driggers started at Sony Online Entertainment in July '06 on Star Wars Galaxies as a client programmer. A few months later, he was moved onto a shared technologies team to integrate the FMOD audio API into the Unreal 3 engine for two of our MMO projects, DC Universe Online (Austin studio) and The Agency (Seattle studio). He was eventually moved to be solely a part of the DCUO team with the main responsibility of continuing to maintain and create new features for the audio system. He is also a part of the client programming team, which means picking up non-audio tasks from time to time. Some of his general responsibilities are creating and maintaining tools and pipeline for designers to implement sound in the game, management of audio assets, and ensuring stability and performance of the audio system (and the client in general) on the PC and PS3. DC Universe Online is still in development and is due for release in 2010 (www.myspace.com/dcuo).

Mr. Driggers is also working remotely on a thesis project for the Guildhall (SMU), which will complete a Master's degree. The project is titled "Multiperspective Rendering Optimizations with DirectX10."
