  • Dr. Ephraim Massawe is one of the members of a national committee which publishes a book entitled "Review of the Department of Labor's Site Exposure Matrix Database." Published by the Institute of Medicine of the National Academies.

  • Dr. Theresa Beaubouef and F. Petry learned that they will have a book chapter entitled "Uncertainty in Concept Hierarchies for Generalization in Data Mining," published in Efficiency and Scalability Methods for Computational Intellect (Eds. B. Igelnik, J. Zurada), IGI Global, 2013, pp. 55-74.

  • Dr. Ihssan Alkadi, Dr. Ghassan Alkadi, and Dr. Theresa Beaubouef learn that their paper entitled "Cloud Computing: its present Status and its Future" has been accepted into the Society for Information Technology and Teacher Education 2013 Conference to be held in New Orleans, LA.

 


January 2013

 

  • Dr. Junkun Ma is selected as the Southeastern faculty member to present at International Week 2013 at Pole Universitaire Leonardo de Vinci (PULV) in Paris, France. Faculty members (campus-wide) apply for this opportunity and only one person from Southeastern can be selected for this all-expenses-paid week long trip. 

 

  • Dr. Ihssan Alkadi is invited to speak at the 2013 IEEE MetroCon Conference in Dallas. All travel expenses are being paid for by the conference.

 

  • James Stutts passes all four certification tests offered by the Association of Technology, Management, and Applied Engineering (ATMAE), becoming certified in the following areas:
    • Certified Manufacturing Specialist
    • Certified Technology Manager
    • Certified Technical Professional
    • Certified in Engineering Graphics

 


 

December 2012

 

  • Dr. John Burris wins a Board of Regents' Pilot Funding for New Research Grant for his project entitled: "Modeling and Simulation using a small-scale Beowulf Cluster." (Co-PI: Dr. Lisa Kuhn (James) in the Mathematics department at Southeastern) Read the news article in The Advocate.

 

  • Dr. Roy Bonnette and Dr.Mike Beauvais win a Large Technology Fee Grant titled "Anzalone 220 CAD Workstations" from the Southeastern Office of Technology.

 

  • Dr. Sebastian van Delden wins Large Technology Fee Grant entitled "Projector System for the Occupational Safety, Health and Environment Degree Program (Anzalone 215)" from the Southeastern Office of Technology.

 

  • Dr. Sebastian van Delden wins Students Government Grant to improve CS&IT facilities.

 

  • Dr. Lu Yuan learns that his paper entitled "Validation of an Integrated Biomechanical Modeling Approach to the Ergonomic Evaluation of Drywall Installation" at the 2013 International Conference on Human-Computer Interaction.

 


November 2012

 

  • Dr. Lu Yuan learns that his paper entitled "Developing a Framework for Comprehensive Assessment of the OSH&E Program Outcomes" at the 2013 American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) Academic Forum.

 

  • Dr. Ho-Hoon Lee presents a paper entitled "A New Trajectory Control of a Car-Like Wheeled Robot" at the ASME 2012 International Mechanical Engineering Congress and Technology in Houston, Texas.

 

  • Dr. Mike Beauvais travels to the 2012 ATMAE Annual Conference to make two presentations: "RepRap TableTop 3D printer: 'Bum Rap' or Viable Solution" and "Using 3D Parametric Software (Inventer) to Teach Orthographic Projection Visualization." in Nashville, TN.

 

 


October 2012

 

  • Dr. Lu Yuanwas selected as the recipient of GBRASSE Langlois-Weigand Award 2011-2012.
    • The Langlois Weigand award goes to an individual who has given extra time or effort to the chapter way beyond simply attending meetings.  It is intended to recognize those individuals who have contributed significantly (via their time, efforts, and expertise) over a long period of time both to the chapter and to the field of safety in general.

 

  • Dr. Junkun Ma wins an Enhancement Grant from the Center for Faculty Excellence for his project entitled: "Acquisition of the SolidWorks 3D Computer Aided Design Software."

 

  • Ms. Jing Liu wins an Enhancement Grant from the Center for Faculty Excellence for his project entitled: "Tutorial Videos for Online Computer Programming Courses."

 

  • Dr. Ephraim Massawe wins an Enhancement Grant from the Center for Faculty Excellence for his project titled: "Purchase of Virtual Industrial Hygiene Laboratory Software for Teaching and Interactive Learning in the Field Evaluation in Industrial Hygiene." 

 

  • Dr. Ihssan Alkadi, Dr. Ghassan Alkadi and Dr. Theresa Beaubouef learn their article titled "A Study of the Status of Cloud Computing and its Future" has been accepted for presentation during the April 10-12, 2013 Conference of The Academic Forum. Williamsburg, Virginia.

  • EVENT: Occupational Safety, Health and Environment faculty and students represent Southeastern at the Louisiana Governor's Safety and Health Conference. Dr. Yuan, Dr. Massawe, Mr. Mauerman, and Mrs. Brown all participated in the two day conference on September 26-27 as well as several students.

  • Dr. Mohammad Saadeh presents the paper "A Hybrid Master-Slave Genetic Algorithm-Neural Network Approach for Modeling a Piezoelectric Actuator" at the ASME 2012 Conference on Smart Materials, Adaptive Structures and Intelligent Systems in Stone Mountain, Georgia.

 

  • Dr.Ghassan Alkadi and Dr.Theresa Beaubouef learn their article titled "Are Software Engineering Textbooks a Thing of the Past?" has been accepted for publication in the magazine ACM Inroads.

 

  • Dr. John Burris, Dr. Wendy Zhang, and Dr. Theresa Beaubouef learn that they have won a Grant Award from the High Performance Computing (HPC) Educators Program to travel to the conference.

 

  • Dr. Theresa Beaubouef and F. Petry's book chapter gets published: "Incorporating Rough Data in Database Design for Imprecise Information Representation", in Rough Sets and IntelligentSystems: Professor Zdzislaw Pawlak in Memoriam (Ed. A. Skowron, Z. Suraj) Springer, 2012, pp. 137-156.

  • Dr. Ho-Hoon Lee learns that his article titled "A Leader-Follower Formation Control of a Group of Mobile Robotcs" has been accepted for publication in Transaction Series on Control and Mechanical Systems.

  • Lawrence Mauerman, instructor in our Occupational, Safety, Health and Environment program, was recognized in a recent ACTIONNEWS17.com article entitled GAINING MOMENTUM: Recycling programs grow stronger in Hammond: Mauerman, especially, has proved indispensable, Shelden said. He gives volunteers a safety briefing before each event to ensure everyone has the proper safety equipment. The briefings are required by DEQ. "He has been our safety consultant at all of these events," Shelden said. "He has participated in every one."
