Department of Computer Science and Industrial Technology
Welcome to the Department of Computer Science and Industrial Technology at Southeastern Louisiana University. The department offers Bachelor of Science degrees and Associate of Science degrees, nationally accredited by ABET and NAIT.
Both Computer Science and Industrial Technology have had a long and successful history at Southeastern. These two programs have been merged together to increase opportunities for students, to experience both computing and technological studies and their applications. Housed in the College of Science and Technology, the new Department provides increased possibilities for undergraduate research and interdisciplinary studies. The Department has numerous avenues to assure student success including four student organizations, academic scholarships, internships, and most importantly, well qualified faculty who work closely with and mentor students.
The Department has three concentrations in Computer Science, the Science Concentration, the Information Systems, and the Information Technology Concentration. In addition, there are four manufacturing technology concentrations in Industrial Technology: Supervision, Drafting Design, Automated Systems, and Internships. There are also associate degree programs in Construction Technology, Design Drafter, and Supervision. Finally, there are associate degree and baccalaureate degree programs in Occupational Safety, Health and Environment.
A new Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technology within the Department of Computer Science and Industrial Technology will be available effective Spring 2009. This four-year degree program will combine the application of scientific and engineering knowledge with engineering methods and technical skills to prepare the graduates for a variety of industrial and government workforce needs. Initially five concentrations or specialized areas of study will be offered within this program: Industrial Engineering Technology, Computer Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Construction Engineering Technology, and Energy Engineering Technology.
During times of concern about the cost of college education and college tuition, one may consider the low tuition rates at Southeastern Louisiana University, along with the fact that Southeastern's Computer Science and Industrial Technology programs meet or exceed national standards as confirmed in its accreditation status by the national accreditation boards of ABET and NAIT, respectively. See current low tuition rates and fees here: www.selu.edu/admin/controller/students/tuition. Also consider that in many core classes, Southeastern offers a book rental program which further reduces student burden on costs.
