Distance Education Opportunities
Numerous courses taught in the Department of Health and Human Sciences are regularly
offered as 100 percent online. All courses are Internet supported and several are
offered as blended course options (50 percent online-50 percent face-to-face) giving
students much more flexibility.
Title IV-E Child Welfare Grant
The Social Work Program, through a Federal Title IV-E Child Welfare Grant, administers several projects aimed at strengthening child welfare services in Louisiana. The grant provides stipends to social work students interested in working in the field of public child welfare. In addition,the grant sponsors initiatives to recruit and retain foster and adoptive parents in the region.

Discovery Project
The Discovery Project, supported through the Social Work Program, is a family resource center providing services to families in Southern Louisiana. Services include:
family education classes
case management
family and youth mentoring
supervised visits
life skills training
transportation
and many other services designed to
strengthen families.

Department of Children and Family Services (D.C.F.S.) youth in foster care are mandated
to complete an Independent Living Skills program.
Southeastern Independent Lving Skills Program serves Department of Children and
Family Services and Office of Juvenile Justice youth ages 14-21 in the Florida Parishes:
St. Tammany, Tangipahoa/St. Helena, Washington, and Livingston.
We conduct group sessions using a curriculum based on the Ansell Casey Life Skills
Assessment (ACLSA) model.
