Dr. Bryan is the Interim Head of the Department of Communication. Prior to joining the communication faculty at Southeastern, Dr. Bryan taught at LSU and Tulane and is a certified emotional intelligence trainer with an extensive background in leadership implementation. She uses this background not only in her work at Southeastern, but also as an organizational consultant.

Dr. Joe Burns worked as a DJ and radio programmer for 11 years before earning his doctorate and entering academic life. He is also a computer programmer and web designer who has written four books on web design. He joined the Southeastern faculty in 1999 and was promoted to associate professor with tenure in 2005.

Dr. Karen Fontenot is the Interim Dean of the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences. She is the author of more than 50 journal articles and conference presentations. Her background is mass communication and journalism. Before entering academia, she worked as a writer and magazine editor.

Dr. Carol Madere began her career as a radio news reporter. She has nearly 20 years experience in various PR positions including writer, director, media liason, and publication editor. She worked in corporate communications and healthcare public relations before completing her Ph.D. and continues to work in non-profit public relations on a volunteer basis.

Dr. Claudia Ladeira McCalman is the Graduate Coordinator for the Department of Communication. Her expertise is in interpersonal, intercultural, and health communication. Her research interests focus on provider-patient communication and disease prevention in public, international, minority, and women's health, especially addressing Hispanic and Portuguese-African populations. Dr. McCalman has researched and taught along the Texas-Mexico Border, and has done HIV prevention research in Brazil.

Professor Joe Mirando has completed 20 years of service on the faculty at Southeastern. He has founded four student organizations, created more than 20 courses, coordinated three professional conventions, authored more than 50 scholarly articles and papers and is a past winner of the David Sloan Award for Outstanding Journalism Educator in the South and the National Medal of Merit for Outstanding Contributions to College Journalism. Prior to coming to Southeastern he worked as a writer, reporter or editor for four daily newspapers.

Dr. Amber Narro is an Assistant Professor at Southeastern. Her expertise is in journalism and public relations. Prior to coming to Southeastern, she was in healthcare marketing and worked as a freelance writer. She has special research interests in communication issues related to the environment as well as diversity and people with disabilities. She currently serves as the Secretary of the Louisiana Communication Association.

Dr. Claire Procopio is an Assistant Professor at Southeastern as well as the managing partner in a Louisiana based consulting company that specializes in educational and organizational consulting. Her current research interests are external compliances accreditation and strategic planning. She is currently the Undergraduate Program Coordinator for the Communication Department and Vice President of the Louisiana Communication Association.
