Publications
Joe Burns recently published two chapters, "Podcasting" and "Wiki Journalism" for the Handbook of Research on Social Interaction Technologies and Collaboration Software: Concepts and Trends. He is also working an interpretation of the lyrics of the song American Pie for an upcoming book about the song. In addition Dr. Burns had a paper accepted for publication that he co-wrote wth Dr. Paul Sawyer of the English Department. The paper is titled: "The iPod as Defense Mechanism". It will be published in the Journal of Radio and Audio Media and will appear in volume 17 number 1.
Carol Madere recently published an article in Public Relations Quarterly titled "Using the University Website to Communicate Crisis Information".
Suzette Bryan, Amber Narro, and Joe Burns recently authored a chapter for the text Best Practices in Experiential and Service Learning in Communication titled "'We Shall Overcome’: Narrating the Challenges of the Early Civil Rights Movement in Southeastern Louisiana".
Suzette Bryan has written a chapter titled "Using Imagined Interactions to Explain Plastic Surgery" in the upcoming book, Imagine That: Studies in Imagined Interactions published by Cresskill Press.

Claire Procopio is scheduled for two presentations at the 95th National Communication Association Annual Conference: the first concerns strategies for female job seekers in the academy. The second is on using YouTube in the basic service course.
Claudia McCalman is scheduled to present “An analysis of Post Katrina Immigrants in New Orleans” at the 95th National Communication Association Annual Conference.
Grants
Steve Bellas received a CITI grant to purchase a teleprompter and a Student Tech Fee Large Project Grant for new audio and video editing laptops.
Amber Narro and Cheryl Settoon were the recipients of a Board of Regents grant which will be used to purchase two edit platforms to be used in television production classes.
Service/Other
The interactive listening station associated with the "Narrating the Silences" was unveiled at a reception hosted by the SLU Department of Communication on Wednesday, October 21 at 5:30 in the library reference room.
This listening station was made possible through the generosity of a Learn and Serve grant awarded through the University of Louisiana System.
Uploaded to the listening station are interviews from those individuals involved in the early Civil Rights movement in Southeastern Louisiana. This project partnered the SLU Department of Communication with the Greater Tangipahoa Parish NAACP Branch who assisted in identifing these individuals. They were interviewed by students in a Communication special topics (400) class taught by Dr. Amber Narro.

Joe Burns is serving as president of Faculty Senate at Southeastern Louisiana University.
Claire Procopio is serving as president elect of the Louisiana Communication Association and as Guest Editor of a Special Edition of the Louisiana Communication Journal on Hurricane Discourse She was selected to guest editor because of her 2007 piece on online communication following Hurricane Katrina that was published by the Journal of Applied Communication Research. She is also serving on the NCA Presidential Taskforce on Program Development and Assessment Guidelines and will be speaking at the Department Chair's Breakfast in November to share her experiences developing the guidelines.
Amber Narro is serving as the Southeastern Journalism Conference president and as secretary for the Louisiana Communication Association.
Suzette Bryan led the strategic planning efforts for the West St. Tammany Cultural Economy Committee Task Force
Terri Miller-Drufner has served as Community Forensics’ Judge for the National Speech and Debate festival held by LHA in Hammond, La. 2008 and 2009. In addition she has served as Chair of Vonnie Borden Annual Speech Festival at Southeastern University since 1995.
Suzette Bryan was the keynote speaker at the Louisiana Court Administrators Spring Conference, presenting “Emotional Intelligence and its Value to the Workplace”
