The oxime ether group is beginning to be incorporated into many pharmaceutical and agricultural compounds. In many cases this group enhances the bioavailability and effectiveness of the compound. Unfortunately, this oxime ether group can exist in two geometric configurations and generally only one configuration is acceptable in the desired product. This necessitates a cumbersome and expensive separation process.
Our research concentrates on developing new synthetic pathways to oxime ethers where the geometric configuration (stereochemistry) of the group is controlled so that only one or predominantly one configuration is formed.
