Research Interests: The role of physical and biological factors in controlling the assembly of ecological communities, with particular emphasis upon competition and plants. The implications of such work for the conservation of biological diversity and restoration of degraded habitats.
National Awards:
2007: The Environmental Law Institute's National Wetland Award for Science
2006: The Society of Wetland Scientists' Merit Award for his work linking theory and
conservation in wetlands, as exemplified in the book Wetland Ecology.
