It is my pleasure to welcome you to the Department of Fine and Performing Arts at Southeastern Louisiana University.
Our department’s mission is to foster excellence in visual, musical and dramatic arts education, and to create an atmosphere of creativity and innovation for both the university community and the Northshore region. Formed in August 2010 by merging the Department of Music and Dramatic Arts with the Department of Visual Arts, this new academic unit offers its students and faculty a singular opportunity for dynamic, innovative collaboration.
Southeastern’s focus on student success, academic excellence, hands-on learning and real world experience is a key element in all the department’s degree programs. Every member of our faculty values daily interaction with students, inspiring and challenging their minds, and helping students achieve their career goals and aspirations.
The department boasts a faculty of nearly sixty performers, artists, scholars and educators, who have achieved national and international distinction in their respective fields, and bring this same level of artistic dedication to the teaching process. In addition, state-of-the-art facilities in all departmental areas support learning at the highest levels. Together, these resources provide our students with a unique educational experience aimed at realizing each person’s artistic potential.
With more than one hundred musical, theatrical and visual arts events annually, the Department of Fine and Performing Arts offers the university as well as the entire Northshore area an exceptional array of concerts, plays, exhibits and lectures, making Southeastern the cultural hub of Louisiana’s fastest growing region.
