Alternative Certification Non Masters

ALTERNATIVE CERTIFICATION

Non Masters in Secondary Education



 Southeastern will begin evaluating students who wish to apply for the Non Master 's Alternative Certification Program in various secondary education areas. Students interested in applying for this certification program should write a short letter requesting that transcripts be evaluated for non masters certification program. Send the letter with copies of all transcripts and copies of all praxis examinations to Dr. Bill Neal at SLU 10671, Hammond, LA 70402. If Dr. Neal’s evaluation appears that you meet the GPA requirements, he will prepare papers in regard to the program that you must sign. You must also apply for admission to Southeastern through the Office of Graduate Admissions at https://www.selu.edu/future_students/grad_student/apply/index.html.  If you have questions specifically for Dr. Neal, you may email him at Bill.Neal@selu.edu.

 

      Admission requirements are as follows: 

 

  • Bachelors degree (regionally accredited) and a cumulative 2.5 GPA on all undergraduate course work

  • Praxis I scores of no less than 174 in reading, 173 in writing, and 172 in mathematics

  • Praxis II exam in the subject matter of the certification being sought

 

    Students applying for Fall 06 that have the required GPA will be given special permission to enroll in the first two education courses without the required Praxis examinations. Starting in Spring 07, all alternative certification students in all programs must be fully admitted to the specific program and meet all admission requirements including Praxis requirements to take education courses. Students should be aware of the required dates to submit applications to take the Praxis examinations through www.ets.org/praxis.

STUDENT TEACHING OR INTERNSHIP
APPLICATION PROCEDURES

Students must complete an Application for Student Teaching/Internship with the Office of Student Teaching (TEC 1018) one semester prior to the semester in which the student teaching/internship is planned.  Applications are accepted during the third and fourth weeks of the Fall and Spring semesters, but not during the summer. Applicants should review the Requirements for Student Teaching or Internship in the General Catalogue for Southeastern Louisiana University.
