Add-On Certification - Mild/Moderate Special Education - Grades 4-8 and 6-12


(Requirements effective July 1, 2010)

 

The chart below identifies the requirements to Add-On Mild/Moderate Grades 4-8 and 6-12 certification to an existing valid teaching certificate.

PRAXIS EXAMS:

 

  • Education of Exceptional Students: Core Content Knowledge (#0353)
    and
  • Education of Exceptional Students: Mild Moderate Disabilities (#0542)
    and ONE of the following:
  • Mild/Moderate (4-8) - Principles of Learning and Teaching (PLT): 5-9 and Middle School Content Exam(s)
    or
  • Mild/Moderate (6-12) - Principles of Learning and Teaching (PLT): 7-12 and High School Content Exam(s)

 

COURSEWORK:

 

  • Assessment and Evaluation of Students with Disabilities (3 hours) (SPED 608)
  • Fundamentals of Instructional Technology (3 hours) (SPED 670)
  • Self-Determination and Transition (3 hours) (SPED 603)
