Elementary Add-On Certification

The chart below identifies requirements to be completed in order to add-on a certification level and/or a certification area within levels to an existing valid teaching certificate.

 

 

Elementary Add-On Certification

Requirements

  

  • For Individual holding a valid  Early Childhood certificate (e.g.,PK-K,PK-3)

 

 

 

     

    1. Achieve passing score for PRAXIS Elementary Education:  Content Knowledge (#0014) 

    2. Achieve passing score for PRAXIS Principles of Learning and Teaching K-6: PLT Grades K-6 (# 30522) 

    3. Accumulate 9 semester hours of reading*, 12 semester hours of mathematics, 12 semester hours of science, and 12 semester hours of social studies coursework.

    * Recommended Reading courses:

    EDUC 657 - Reading in the Elementary School

    EDUC 661 - Diagnostic and Prescriptive Reading

    EDUC 678 - Dyslexia and Related Disabilities in the Classroom

     
     
  • For individual upper elementary or middle school certificate (e.g., 4-8. 5-8, 6-8),

 

  • secondary certificate (e.g., 6-12, 7-12, 9-12)

 

  • mild/moderate certificate, or an all level K-12 certificate (art, dance, foreign language, Health, PE, H&PE, music)

       NOTE:  Add-on endorsement certifications not identified in this proposed policy will continue to follow requirements currently in place in Bulletin 746.
