Elementary and Secondary Principal Supervisor

BULLETIN 746 CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS



 

          This add-on certification is being phased out by the State Department of Education. Students must complete all certification requirements by December 31, 2008. We do not guaranty that all courses on the list below will continue to be offered through 2008. Teachers interested in becoming a school administrator should contact the Department of Educational Leadership and Technology at 985-549-5713. Inquire about the Master of Education in Educational Leadership.     

 

  

  ADMINISTRATION / SUPERVISION


PRINCIPALSHIP

 

     A.   Must hold a valid Type A Louisiana Teaching Certification for Elementary School or
            Secondary School.
     B.   Must have an earned Master’s Degree from a regionally accredited institution of
            higher education.
     C.   Must have five or more years of classroom teaching experience at the elementary
            or secondary level.
     D.   Must have a minimum score of 620 on the Educational Administration and
            Supervision Area Exam of the National Teacher’s Exam (NTE).

                         ALL PRINCIPALS must complete the following 24 hours:

                         EDL 626                     Public School Administration
                         EDF 600                     Educational Research
                         EDF 607/615/616        Philosophy or History of Education
                         EDL 721                     School Law
                         EDL 710                     School Finance
                         EDL 642                     School Personnel Administration
                         EDL 702/641               School/Community Relations or School Facilities
                         EDL 635                     Supervision of Instruction/Elementary and Secondary

                       ELEMENTARY PRINCIPALS must complete these additional 6 hours:

                         EDL 627                  Elementary School Principalship
                         EDUC 691               Curriculum Development in the Elementary School

                       SECONDARY PRINCIPALS must complete these additional 6 hours:

                        EDL 628                   Secondary School Principalship
                        EDUC 692                Curriculum Development in the Secondary School 

 

 PARISH OR CITY SUPERVISOR OF INSTRUCTION

 

     A.   Must hold a valid Type A Louisiana Teaching Certificate.
     B.   Must have an earned Master’s Degree from a regionally accredited institution of
            higher education.
     C.   Must have five or more years of classroom teaching experience.

 The following 33 hours must be completed:

                        EDL 636                    Supervision of Student Teaching
                        EDUC 691                 Curriculum Development/Elementary School
                        EDUC 692                 Curriculum and Instruction/Secondary School
                        EDF 600                    Educational Research
                        EDF 607/615/616        Philosophy or History of Education
                        EDL 721                    School Law
                        EDL 709                    Practicum in Supervision

Six hours chosen from:

                        EDUC 533                 Tests and Measurements
                        EDF 701                    Educational Statistics
                        EPSY 605                  Psychological Foundations of Human Learning
