ALTERNATIVE CERTIFICATION IN SPECIAL EDUCATION:
EARLY INTERVENTION
Currently, new alternate certification programs are being developed and scheduled to be submitted to the Board of Regents and the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education during the 2005-06 academic year. Until new programs are implemented, students may continue to enroll in the old alternative certification programs listed below. When the date that students admitted to the programs below must have all requirements completed to become certified is released, we will post that information on this web page

Effective July 1, 2005, changes in Praxis requirements required for these old programs goes into effect as follows:

The “Praxis II Elementary Content Exam #10014” is now required for all candidates in Early Intervention and Severe Profound and must be passed prior to student teaching.

For candidates in Early Intervention, the Praxis Exam “Education of Exceptional Children: Core Content Knowledge #0353” and the exam “Early Childhood Education #0020” is required as the pedagogy exam and must be passed prior to student teaching.

For candidates in Severe Profound (Effective since June 1, 2004, the Praxis Exam “Education of Exceptional Children : Core Content #0353” and the Praxis Exam “Education of Exceptional Children: Severe to Profound” is required as the pedagogy exam and must be passed prior to student teaching.

STUDENT TEACHING OR INTERNSHIP Students must complete an Application for Student Teaching/Internship with the Office of Student Teaching (TEC 1018) one semester prior to the semester in which the student teaching/internship is planned. Applications are accepted during the third and fourth weeks of the Fall and Spring semesters, but not during the summer. Applicants should review the Requirements for Student Teaching or Internship in the General Catalogue for Southeastern Louisiana University.
