Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) - Elementary Certification Grades 1-5
To address the shortage of teachers nationwide, Southeastern Louisiana University offers the Master of Arts in Teaching degree program as an alternative route to certification. This intensive full-time, five semester program will culminate in a Master of Arts in Teaching with certification in Grades 1-5. Students will be advised in additional certification endorsements.
Participants in the program are admitted as a cohort each summer. Coursework will begin with an intensive summer program followed by two semesters of full-time coursework and field placement in the University laboratory school under the mentorship of master teachers. A second summer of coursework and a semester of student teaching (2 semesters of internship) will complete the program.
