Zoom into Careers

The college of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences is proud to offer a series of high school career workshops designed for participants to explore exciting career opportunities and the competencies required to succeed in their chosen field.  This summer, the college of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences presents, Zoom into Movie Making and Zoom into Television.  Our Zoom into Careers summer workshops will introduce participants to career opportunities available in Louisiana and within the Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences college curriculum at Southeastern.  We look forward to exploring career options with you and having a week of fun and networking with students from other schools. Don’t forget to Zoom into Careers next summer. We will be expanding our program to include commuter and overnight options.

Zoom into Movie Making

Do you see yourself filming on location, whether behind or in front of the camera, scripting, editing and directing? If so, get ready to zoom into one of Louisiana’s most dynamic industries! The film and movie making sector has contributed to Louisiana’s economy by growing 81% since 2005, and Louisiana currently ranks third in the country behind California and New York in the number of films produced. Southeastern Louisiana University offers a unique opportunity to learn about movie making without leaving Louisiana. This innovative program is a week long workshop taught by seasoned professionals.   Learn more >>

Zoom into Television

Zoom into Television is a week long high school workshop designed to  train participants in the various techniques of television and video program preproduction, production, and post production, focusing on the production of a representative TV program, the 15-minute newscast.  Participants will receive introductory exposure and information about the television and video production industries. They will also be introduced via demonstration and hands-on exercises to the various techniques of production such as script research, scriptwriting, reporter interviews and standups, shooting story B-Roll and visuals. Additionally, participants will learn the operation and proper use of camera, lighting, audio equipment, and they will learn the process of digital editing, shoot logging, voice over recording, newscast formatting, anchoring, studio and control room operations, and the studio production of a newscast.  Participants will then be required to produce their own story segment packages on location for inclusion in a studio newscast, which they will produce on the final day.  Learn more >>

Northshore School of The Arts

Imagine an after-school program where talented junior and senior high school students who are serious about the arts work with high-quality professionals in their field.  Imagine a program that challenges those same students with more advanced and intensive course work than the typical high school offering.  Imagine being able to obtain university-level credit at Southeastern Louisiana University while still in high school.  This is now a reality on the Northshore with the creation of Southeastern Louisiana University's Northsore School of the Arts.

The nurturing of creative abilities will come to life in a unique way through the Northsore School of the Arts.  Through inspiration, example, and guidance, Southeastern's faculty in the areas of Art, Dance, and Music will guide our potential artists of tomorrow with this exciting program.  As an after-school program, the NSA supplements and reinforces the instruction already existing in the schools.
