Southeaster Louisiana University

College of Arts, Humanities & Social Sciences

Welcome to the College of Arts, Humanities & Social Sciences

The College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences is composed of the Departments of English, Fine and Performing Arts, History and Political Science, Languages and Communication, Psychology, Sociology and Criminal Justice and the General Studies Program. As an intellectual and cultural hub of southeast Louisiana, we provide stimulating and rich experiences for our students and people of the larger community.

We invite you to share our enthusiasm by exploring this web site, taking our classes, reading our publications, and attending our numerous cultural events, including concerts, plays, exhibits, lectures, workshops, and much more. Our faculty provide high-quality instruction that challenges and teaches students to think analytically, creatively, and scientifically, and to solve problems concerning human creativity; human behavior, emotion, and cognition; and human culture and institutions.

We provide students with many opportunities to “do their discipline” both inside and outside of the classroom. Motivated students work closely with faculty on research and scholarly and creative activities that often culminate in professional conference presentations, co-authored publications, musical performances, theatrical performances, or artistic exhibitions. Our students are competitive on a national level, gaining acceptance into graduate programs throughout the nation and region, receiving prestigious awards and recognition, and having rewarding careers.
