LIONETTES PLACE SECOND IN NATIONAL COMPETITION
HAMMOND Southeastern Louisiana University's dance team, the Lionettes placed
second this summer at the Universal Dance Association Spirit Camp at the University of
Alabama and will advance to national competition in January.
The Lionettes, a Division I team, competed for the first time and defeated larger, more
competitive, nationally ranked teams throughout the country, including Division IA schools such
as University of Alabama, Florida State University and the University of Alabama at
Birmingham.
The team will compete in the National Universal Dance Association (UDA) Dance Team
Competition in Orlando in January.
"Needless to say, we are thrilled," said Dana Brewer-Plazinic, Southeastern dance
instructor and Lionette advisor. "Second place overall is even better than first place in our
division. I think these schools will be talking about Southeastern for years to come."
This semester, the Lionettes welcomed former dance team Melissa Tryniecki Bordelon,
who joined the team as Brewer-Plazinic's co-advisor. Bordelon, who is also a former
Saintsations dance team member, serves as the current Lionette Alumni president.
The team will participate in Homecoming festivities and the November 16 and 17 men's
and women's basketball games. The Lionettes will also take part in Southeastern's Pride Days,
held the last Thursday of every month.
